Race: 2012-07-29 sun / Fine / Attendance 27,500 (Announcement from the organizer)

TEAM MUGEN cooperated with Honda Motor Co., Ltd in order to compete in GT300 with the #16 MUGEN CR-Z GT (Drivers: Hideki Muto / Daisuke Nakajima), equipped with a racing hybrid system, for the very first time at the 4th round of the series held at SPORTSLAND SUGO.
Considering the intensive development of hybrid systems for standard road cars nowadays TEAM MUGEN believe motor assist and regenerative energy systems will play an increasingly important and vital role in the future of motorsports.

Despite this debut race coming less than one month after the initial shakedown (testing) of the car and systems, #16 MUGEN CR-Z GT qualified for the race in a creditable 9th position among 25 cars. In the race #16 MUGEN CR-Z GT made progress up to 2nd place, however, a delay in the pits and a slow engine restart resulted in a 16th place finish. Throughout this debut event the team were able to collect invaluable data, which will aid the progress of the car in future races.
