ついに平均車速120マイル超！TT Zero 5連覇達成

いよいよ決戦のとき、今日が2018年TT Zero決勝日です。
天候は晴れ、路面状況、視界共に最良という完璧なコンディションで記録樹立に臨むこととなります。
スターティングエリアにはイギリス王室のウィリアム王子も現れ、
光栄なことにTEAM MUGEN神電七への質問を賜りました。
 
先週から始まったプラクティスではマシントラブルにより整備作業が長引き、
走行を見合わせるセッションもありました。
しかし、チーム一丸となっての懸命な作業により無事走行準備を完了。
ライダーも記録の樹立に集中し、スネーフェル・マウンテンコースに挑みます。
 
当初の予定通り、12時45分、ウィリアム王子の合図によりTT Zeroの決勝がスタート。
1号車を駆るマイケル・ルター選手は勢いよくブレイヒルの坂へ飛び込んで行きました。
コース途中の計測箇所では、2番手に7秒ほどの差を付けて快調にコースを攻略。
その後も勢いを落とすことなく37.7マイル(60.7km)のラップを18分34秒956でフィニッシュし、見事3年越しの記録を更新する、平均車速121.824mph（時速約194.92km）を達成。
自身の6度目のTT優勝に花を添えました。
 
悲願のTT初優勝を目指してレースに臨んだ2号車のリー・ジョンストン選手ですが、コース終盤のマウンテンセクション内バンガローでチェーンが脱落するトラブルが発生し一時ストップ。
すぐに修復しレースに戻りましたが惜しくも3位となりました。
同レースで最高速度に達するサルビーストレートでは、全車中最速の170.8mph（時速約275km）を記録し、神電七のポテンシャルを披露。レース後には悔しさをにじませましたが、ポディウムではTEAM MUGENのフラッグを掲げ、クルー達に感謝の意を表していました。
 
平均車速102.215mphの神電から7年、
我々の電動バイクは歴史あるマン島TT・マウンテンコースで
ついに平均車速120mphの壁を突破することができました。

今年は参戦発表以降にライダー交代や参戦体制の変更が生じ、困難なスタートになりました。
また、現地でも車体のトラブルが発生し、その不具合対策の為に練習走行を2回キャンセルする事となり、7年間の中で最も厳しい状況でレースに臨むことになりました。現地では不具合対策ができず、日本とUKの2ヶ所で対策作業を進めました。
決勝前日に対策部品が届き、その後すぐにJurby Airfield（ジャービィ・エアフィールド）で走行確認を実施し、翌日の決勝レースに臨みました。
対策部品が揃うまでに時間を要しましたが、ライダーが納得できる状態まで車体を戻せたことが決勝の走行につながったと思います。
決勝は快晴の中、定刻通りにスタート。1号車は各ポイントでコースレコードを更新しながら、無事チェッカーを受けました。
2号車はバンガローで駆動系のトラブルが発生し、その後コース上で修復し、チェッカーを受けて決勝レースを終えました。2号車のリー・ジョンストン選手には非常に残念な結果となりました。このトラブルは現在原因を調査中です。1号車のマイケル・ルター選手は神電の性能を最大限に発揮し、2位と23秒差をつけて優勝しております。

優勝、そしてコースレコードを達成してくれたマイケル・ルター選手、トラブルが発生したにもかかわらずコース上で修復し完走してくれたリー・ジョンストン選手、良い流れとはいえない状況下ですばらしい結果を残してくれました。2名のライダーの偉大さを感じたと共に感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。そして、ジョン・マクギネス選手、ブルース・アンスティ選手、お二人のこれまでの礎があったからこそ、今日という日を迎えることが出来たのだと思います。
そして、記録更新まで3年も掛かってしまいましたが、この結果に至ることができたのもひとえに、皆様のご支援ご協力のおかげであり、
心より感謝申し上げます。本当にありがとうございました。

The race result of 2018 Isle of Man TT TT Zero challenge class

TEAM MUGEN won the Isle of Man TT TT Zero race for a 5th consecutive time with an average lap speed over 120 mph eventually!
Today, the race day for 2018 Isle of Man TT TT Zero class has come at last. Weather is good. Road condition is good. And visibility is good as well. TEAM MUGEN will challenge the race in such a perfect condition. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge appeared at the starting area and kindly talked to MUGEN riders and members.

They spent too much time fixing the machine and missed some sessions. But TEAM MUGEN members were all united to finish preparation for the race. Two riders will try to concentrate on challenging the Snaefell Mountain Course to make a new lap time record.

As scheduled, the race started at 12:45PM. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge played a role as starter of the TT Zero class race. #1 Michael Rutter riding the #1 Shinden Nana dove into the Bray Hill. Measuring machines on the course showed the 7-second gap between Michael Rutter and competitor following him just behind, then he kept on going in good shape. In the end he crossed the finish line with a lap time of 18:34.956 and made a new record after 3 years’ interval. TEAM MUGEN accomplished the long-sought-after goal of an average lap speed over 120 mph with the result of 121.824mph, and Michael Rutter himself won the 6th TT race championship.

#2 Lee Johnston faced a chain trouble at around the end of the course, Bungalow of the mountain section. The chain dropped and he had no choice but to stop temporarily.

But he fixed the machine and came back to the course and finished the race in 2nd place. Lee Johnston made the fastest record, 170.8mph (Approx. 275km/h) among all the participants at Sulby Straight and showed potential of Shinden Nana. Though he looked chagrined, he raised TEAM MUGEN flag at the podium and showed his gratitude to the audience.

Seven years ago the average speed of Shinden was 102.215mph. And eventually TEAM MUGEN’s electric bike has exceeded the average speed 120mph at the historical Isle of Man mountain course. Please keep eye on TEAM MUGEN which continues to evolve.

“Just after the announcement of participation in the Isle of Man TT race this year, we had no choice but to begin this project with so many difficulties including sudden change of riders and team structure. Even after entering the Isle of Man, we had to cancel the practice sessions twice due to a machine trouble. I felt the race this year was the hardest one ever. Within the Isle of Man we could not cope with the trouble by ourselves, and asked for help of our team members in both Japan and UK to prepare countermeasure parts. A day before the race day, the parts came to us and we rushed to try them at Jurby Airfield and got ready for the race. Though we wasted so much time preparing the parts, we tried our best to adjust the machine to satisfy riders’ requests as much as possible. That, I believe could be counted as one of the contributions to the race result.

The race began on time under the clear sky. #1 made new records at each measure point and crossed the finish line safe. #2 was involved in a drive-train trouble at the Bungalow. He then fixed the part and finished the race. The result was quite disappointing one for #2 Lee Johnston, I assume. We currently are investigating its cause. #1 Michael Rutter maximized the potential of Shinden Nana well enough to win the race 23 seconds faster than the machine in 2nd place.

I highly respect the two riders and feel so grateful for the new record Michael Rutter accomplished and Lee Johnston who crossed the finish line in 3rd place even he suffered from the machine trouble during the race. There is no doubt that this day never comes without a great achievement of John McGuinness and Bruce Anstey.
