100年以上の歴史を持つ世界最古のバイクレース「マン島TT」の季節がやってきました。マン島はグレートブリテン島とアイルランド島の間に位置する淡路島ほどの大きさの島。普段はレースが行われるとはとても思えない静かで緑豊かな島ですが、その美しい島に設定された1周37.73マイル（60.72km）の公道コースを時に時速300kmを超えるスピードで疾走するのがマン島TTレースです。長らくレシプロエンジンを搭載したバイクを主体として行われてきたレースですが、2009年よりCO2を排出しないバイクで競われるレース「TT Zeroクラス」がスタートしました。
TEAM MUGENはこの歴史あるマン島TTレースで開催されるTT Zeroクラスに電動バイク「神電」で挑み、今年で7度目の参戦となります。今年は1号車にマイケル・ルター選手、2号車にリー・ジョンストン選手を起用。ルター選手は2011年から2013年までTT Zeroクラス3連勝の実績を誇るベテランライダーで、ジョンストン選手はマン島TTレース未勝利ながらも今1番勢いのある若手ライダーとして注目を集めています。TEAM MUGENは昨年までに4連覇を達成し、今年は前人未到の5連覇、そしてさらなる記録の更新を目指しレースに挑みます。
今週末から始まるプラクティスセッションに向け、パドックではレース参加チームが準備で大忙しの様相。徐々にレースムードが高まってきています。TEAM MUGENのピット設営は、天候にも恵まれ予定よりも早いペースで完了し、日本より空輸されたマシンも無事現地に到着しました。ピットでは26日より予定されている事前テストに向け、マシンのセットアップや充電が行われています。神電初搭乗となるマイケル・ルター選手はポジション合わせも済ませ、テスト走行が待ちきれない様子でした。3号車を駆る予定だったジョン・マクギネス選手、残念ながら今年も怪我の影響で出場を見送ることになりましたが、神電七に強い興味を示し、「自分もテストで乗る！」と、チームを和ませる一幕もありました。

June when the Isle of Man TT race which has a history of over 100 years is held has come. The Isle of Man is located in between the islands of Great Britain and Ireland, and as large as the Awaji isle. Normally the island is very quiet and rich in green. Isle of Man TT is the race in which the 37.73 miles (60.72km) public road course is closed and the bikes go on it faster than 300km/h. The race had been held for the motorcycles installed with reciprocating engines on for a long period on time, but since 2009 TT Zero class for the motorcycles exhausting no CO2 has started.
TEAM MUGEN has been challenging this historical race, the Isle of Man TT with the electric motorcycle “Shinden” for 7 times this year. It is Michael Rutter who rides on No. 1 Shinden Nana, and Lee Johnston on No. 2 Shinden Nana. Michael Rutter is experienced rider who is champion of the TT Zero class from 2011 to 2013. On the other hand Lee Johnston is one of the most energetic and attractive young riders, he has never won the TT race yet, though. TEAM MUGEN will challenge the race to become a champion 5 times in a row, and make a new record.
All teams in paddock seem quite busy preparing for the practice sessions to be held from the end of this week. Everyone was getting ready for the race. Owing to good weather TEAM MUGEN could build up their pit earlier than they expected, and all the Shindens arrived at the paddock safe and sound.
Shinden Nanas have been set up including battery charge at the MUGEN pit as a preparation for test sessions. Michael Rutter who rode Shinden for the very first time finished seat positioning and hardly waited for the race.
Though John McGuinness who was planning to ride No.3 Shinden Nana disappointedly was forced to withdraw from the TT Zero race again this year due to his injury, he expressed a strong interest in Shinden Nana, and said “I will get on it at the test session!” and made all the team-mates smile.
